THE PVR TEST TURNING IDEAS INTO REALITY

The PVR Test (meaning Plausible, Viable and Return) works with many standard planning tools because it is a simple way to test ideas.  It works well in groups because it is based on simple filtering questions that provide an opportunity for people to pitch ideas (Using the Elevator pitch or similar) and counteract pitfalls like “peer encouragement”.

Three Simple Questions

1.  Is the idea plausible in terms of the type of business you are in and customers or members you have? How?

2.  If yes, then is it viable in terms of the base proposition and approach taken to deliver value?

3.  If yes, then what is the estimate of return on the investment put in?  Compared to other options you may have.

Here’s the simple cut and paste quick fix template

PVR TEST

Plausible

Viable

Return

Is it a logical activity for us and something the stakeholder group, it is aimed at, expect we might do.  Is it relevant?

Does it achieve the result we want at an acceptable cost (all costs)?

Does it produce the return we want? Is it the best thing to do if compared with other options? Does it deliver value to the stakeholder?
