Broadcasting Standards Authority Case Study.

Brief:  The Broadcasting Standards Authority wanted to broaden the way they achieve their mission. Futurecentric helped the BSA to re-craft a strategic approach using our Circuit Breaker and Challenges and Opportunities models. Our unique style helped the BSA think differently about their future.

ARTICLE:  THINKING CAPS ON AT THE BSA

The Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) has accomplished a major shift in thinking about how they achieve their goals with the help of Duncan McLachlan from Futurecentric.

Dominic Sheehan (CE of the BSA) saw the need to re-strategize and approached Futurecentric after becoming aware of some of the results they had accomplished for Creative NZ.

Duncan is a deep analytical and creative thinker, an expert in exaptation, experienced in many (pubic and private?) sectors. The focus on new challenges and opportunities comes naturally to him and the results produced through the BSA was no exception.

If you asked me to name one key thing which Futurecentric brings to the organisation, it was basically that outside the square strategic thinking. If you look at this years SOI where we end up is very different. We are able to see there’s been a quantum leap in the organisations thinking, and I credit Duncan with actually making me sit and analyse our organisation from angles I hadn’t analysed it from before.

Being a small organisation made it easier for us to introduce new ideas, particularly ninety day planning as well as other systems that produced a higher degree of adaptation. (unsure if this is necessary?)

The BSA have entered new territory and introduced new systems over a short period of time. Early indications are that progress is being made in new areas within the first quarter of the planning year thanks to the revitalised strategic plan offered by Futurecentric. Negotiating an agreement to work together was simplified by Futurecentric flat fee system enabling clients to know where they stand on costs reducing budgeting risks.

“We appreciated being able to agree a flat fee in the current economic climate.”
